The Sunset Church of Christ is a bilingual, multi-cultural church, located in Miami, Florida. We offer bible classes and worship services in English and Spanish. Job summary

The Lead Minister will provide spiritual leadership to the congregation by preparing sermons, teaching, preaching and leading worship services on Sunday morning and other times during the week, as applicable. The preaching and teaching will be focused on spiritual growth and building depth of Biblical knowledge and understanding with day to day practical application. He will work with the elders and other ministry leaders in coordinating ministry programs, reaching out to members and supporting those in spiritual or physical need, all in keeping with the Sunset Church of Christ’s mission. The Lead Minister must also be oriented around the practical aspects of running a church such as managing ministerial staff, leading ministry meetings and a general awareness of financial considerations.

The Lead Minister must spend time developing and nurturing his own relationship with the Lord through study, prayer and meditation. He must take a lead role in discipleship - leading others to lead others. He is to be available to the congregation in and around scheduled services. He is to be involved in the lives of members and build those relationships. He must be organized and have a disciplined work ethic

Responsibilities & Duties

Preaching and Teaching

  • Preach sermons in English and Spanish in simultaneous assemblies, and quarterly bilingual sermons (45+ weeks/year)
  • Teach Sunday AM and Wednesday PM Classes (presently in Spanish)
  • Coordinate preaching schedule
  • Coordinate Welcome videos and Scripture reading videos
  • Teach and coordinate special seminars on specific topics for elders and congregation

Ministers and Staff

  • Keep ministers and staff focused on Sunset’s mission and vision
  • Coordinate and lead Minister (weekly) and Staff (monthly) meetings
  • Mentor and problem solve
  • Coordinate Welcome videos and Scripture reading videos
  • Work in focused way with Gustavo and Gaby Rivera, newest additions to Sunset ministry team

Elders

  • Serve as Liaison between elders and ministers
  • Attend elders meetings
  • Prepare and update Prayer Lists
  • Prepare and update Membership List and Shepherd Groups
  • Coordinate the process to prepare the annual budget

Ministries

  • Ministry Leaders
    • Coordinate and work with ministry leaders and their ministries
    • Coordinate quarterly meetings
    • Prepare and update Ministries Booklet
  • New Members
    • Coordinate new member integration into congregation
    • Coordinate New Member Luncheon
  • Missions
    • Consult and assist Missions Ministry
    • Assist Sunset’s ministry to local congregations
  • Counseling and Visitation
    • Pastoral counseling
    • Ministry to families in times of illness and death

Miscellaneous

  • Make weekly announcements of upcoming events
  • Serve as signatory and primary for our bank account and the principal card holder for our four credit card account

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong bi-lingual communication skills to inform, persuade and comfort the congregation; these skills are also important to communicate with church staff and the media if necessary.
  • The ability to keep sensitive information private and confidential when working with individual members to better counsel and comfort church members in times of crisis; He should respect a member’s privacy during and after counseling.
  • Organizational and management skills to work with the church administration as well as the Ministry leaders in a timely manner.
  • Strong moral character to give a good Christian example to the congregation.
  • Loves God and Loves People compassionately and enthusiastically is a must.

Education & Experience requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; preferably in theology, divinity, Christian learning or related field.
  • Ideally, five or more years’ experience ministering in a culturally diverse congregation.
